I’m conscious this week of situations where I don’t have control. I met a couple that is married that is having problems. One of them is open to getting help; the other is not. I feel that urge, that desire to want to fix the relationship but I know I can’t./I was looking forward to my time off this week and two funerals came in (Fr. Marek is away.)/My mom went back into the hospital./There are people in the parish who are seriously ill all the way to critically ill./I know some people who are out of control with their drinking and drugging and are harming themselves and those around them.
We all want to be in control but find ourselves not in control. What do we do?
One of my favorite and most meaningful prayers is the “Prayer for Serenity”: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
If you find yourself in a situation or relationship where there is little or no control, let’s try praying this prayer: for ourselves and for those who find themselves in similar circumstances.
